Located in north central Scottsdale, Starfire at Scottsdale Country Club offers beautiful views of the McDowell Mountains as players wind through the 27 holes lined with many old eucalyptus, pine and cottonwood trees.
The "King" Nine was designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in 1988. Palmer also redesigned the existing "The Squire" and "The Hawk" Nines, making them more up to date and challenging. The terrain is fairly flat, and there are water hazards that come into play on thirteen holes.
An Arnold Palmer design, this classic resort style layout features an intriguing mix of 3 par three's; 3 par four's; and 3 par five's. Low scores can be had, however accuracy is vital as water is in play on 5 of 9 holes. The signature hole is #8--a 203- yard par 3 over water to an elevated green surrounded by bunkers. Par is an excellent score here.
Rolling greens and a challenging more traditional layout redesigned by Arnold Palmer highlights the South Course. The 4th hole is a dramatic dogleg left where the tee shot must be long and accurate leaving a short to medium iron approach, which must be carried over water.
After a summer of renovation, the North Course has just recently been made available for play. With mature tree-lined fairways and beautifully manicured bunkers, the North Course offers a stiff test of golf calling for the use of every club in the bag.
Playable par five's and challenging par three's are highlighted by the 3rd hole. With the McDowell Mountains acting as a perfect backdrop, this new par 3 stretches to 232 yards from the championship tees making it a hole to remember. |
