News > FBR Open is Almost Here!

December 10, 2008: With each passing day of 2008 we draw even closer to the beginning of the 2009 PGA Tour schedule and most importantly, the kick-off to the FBR / Phoenix Open.

Held annually since 1987 at the TPC Stadium, the FBR Open is one of golf's most watched and recognized events.

Festivites begin on January 26th with practice rounds, clinics, and smaller tournaments and with the opening round of the event starting on Thursday, January 29th. This year's event is boasting a $6 Million purse with the winner taking home $1.08 Million as the grand prize.

The FBR Open started out as the Phoenix Open back in 1932. It started out small but gained recognition after Bob Goldwater Sr. and the Thunderbirds took over at the helm and grew it to the current 132 player field with major coverage.

Last year's event saw a dramatic finish as J.B. Holmes just barely edged out hometown favorite Phil Mickelson in a playoff. It was Holme's second PGA victory on tour and his second win at the FBR Open.

Both players are sure to return along with some of the PGA Tour's biggest stars.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance gate or at select locations. Admission is $25.00 per adult and free to children 17 and under with a paying adult. Proceeds from the event help local charities such as the Arizona Special Olympics and the Junior Golf Association of Arizona.

Thinking of coming to the Phoenix / Scottsdale area for the FBR Open? Give Open Golf Tee Times a call today. We are offering discounted tee times for most of the courses in the area as well as the host course, the TPC Stadium.

If you want do not plan on coming to Arizona but want to watch the event, don't worry! Television coverage for the event will take place on the Golf Channel for Thursday and Friday rounds and CBS for Saturday and Sunday.
